On January 9, 2008, member representative Tarajee Stevenson visited the Marshall County DHS office for a pizza luncheon. During the luncheon, employees of Marshall County, which has 100% staff participation in the association, brought up several OPEA 2008 platform initiatives that are important to them, including retiree insurance coverage, the rule of 80 and holding on to the current 75% dependent coverage that state employees’ receive.
While many of the staff are long time members of the association, veteran Phyllis Stanley pointed out how important returning to the rule of 80 is to her fellow co-workers.
Also discussed during the meeting were the details of the recently completed compensation study and how calling and utilizing the new take action link on OPEA’s website. This component allows members to retrieve their local legislators’ information and automatically send a pre-written letter supporting the OPEA pay raise bill.
